How I Became a Professional Organizer — and What it means to me.

Four years into running Nice & Neat Pro Organizing, I’ve discovered that organizing is

about so much more than bins, labels, and beautifully arranged pantries. Although I will

admit, I have a serious appreciation for a good label and the perfect bin!

What I’ve really discovered is that I enjoy helping people make their lives easier. I’ve

always found ways to make things work better. I notice things—a drawer that doesn’t

function well, a closet that is impossible to find what you need, or a kitchen that has

everything you need but somehow nothing is where it should be. I enjoy figuring out

how to make those spaces work better.

Over the years, I’ve also learned that behind every cluttered space is a person with a

story. And that person doesn’t need someone to judge them because they called for

help. They need someone to say, “Okay. Let’s figure this out together.”

That’s where I come in.

A home is not a showroom; it’s a place where people live.

Things get messy, schedules get busy and life happens.

The people are my favorite part.

One of the most rewarding parts of my business has been developing relationships with

repeat clients. Some call me when they have a major organizing project, while others

bring me back again and again to help with the ongoing rhythm of daily life. And I love

that. Because organization isn’t a one-time event.

As our work together continues, I get to understand how their household functions and

what systems will truly work for them. That trust is something I never take for granted.

Then there are the moves… Moving is one of those life events that can feel exciting,

overwhelming, emotional— and occasionally all three before lunch. I’ve helped clients

prepare their homes for a move, decide what is coming with them, pack, coordinate with

other home and moving services, unpack, and create organizing systems in their new

homes. There is something incredibly satisfying about walking into a house filled with

boxes and eventually seeing it become a home!

When I look back at how Nice & Neat Pro Organizing has grown, I realize that the most

meaningful part isn’t the number of closets I’ve organized or boxes I’ve unpacked.

It’s the people.

It’s the repeat clients who have trusted me to help them through different seasons of

life, the families who have invited me into their homes, and the people who have said, “I

don’t even know where to start,” and then watched as one small area became

manageable. It’s the clients who call me again because they know I understand how

their household works.

And it’s that moment when someone walks into a newly organized space and says, “Oh

my gosh. This is so much better.” Those moments never get old.

So, what does a professional organizer actually do?

I organize closets, sort through years of accumulated belongings, create systems for

everyday life, prepare homes for moves, and unpack homes. But the job is really about

much more than that. At its heart, I’m there to stand beside someone in the middle of an

overwhelming space and help them figure out what comes next.

Because ultimately, organizing isn’t really about stuff. It’s about time. It’s about energy.

It’s about making room for the life you actually want to live. I can honestly say that I feel

incredibly lucky to have found work that lets me do exactly that.

And yes, I still love a good label.

Until next time,

Jolene
