The Closet Catalyst: How Clearing Physical Space Unlocks Life’s Energy
We’ve all been there. You’re staring at your laptop, your calendar, or your bank account, and everything just feels... stuck. The air feels heavy, motivation is at an all-time low, and no amount of caffeine seems to fix the creative standstill.
When we feel overwhelmed, our instinct is usually to push harder, work longer hours, or force a breakthrough. But sometimes, the secret to moving forward isn't doing more— it’s making space for more.
When in Doubt, Rage-Clean
A few months ago, I hit a massive wall. My business was at a total standstill, and I was deeply frustrated, exhausted, and overwhelmed. I didn’t want to answer emails, and I certainly didn't want to work on a marketing strategy.
Instead, I listened to a sudden, intuitive nudge: If you want things to move, you have to make the space.
So, I took all that frustrated energy and channeled it into the worst spot in my house: My closet.
Over the course of two days, I ripped absolutely everything out. I sorted, I categorized into bins, I color-coordinated, and I packed up bags for donation. To be honest, it was the absolute last thing I wanted to be doing with my time, but something deep inside told me to keep going.
And then, the shift happened.
Before I had even finished putting the last bin away, I could feel the heavy energy in the room lift. But I didn't expect the universe to respond quite so literally.
The 48-Hour Shift
The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Within 48 hours of emptying that closet, the stagnation vanished:
2 New Clients: Out of nowhere, two ideal clients signed on.
A Brand New Opportunity: I was connected with an incredible new venture (but more on that in my next blog post!).
By physically clearing out the old, stagnant items I was holding onto, I sent a clear signal that I was ready for the new. And the magic flowed right in.
The Science (and Soul) of Space Clearing
As professional organizers, we talk a lot about systems, aesthetics, and functionality. But the energetic side of organization is just as real.
When your physical environment is crowded, your brain treats those piles of clutter as visual to-do lists. It drains your subconscious energy. By emptying a physical space, you:
Break the stagnant momentum of a bad mood or a business rut.
Practice intentional decision-making (Keep, Donate, Toss), which sharpens your focus for business and life.
Create a literal vacuum that the universe loves to fill with fresh opportunities.
Your Turn: Find Your "Worst" Spot
The next time you are feeling anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed, step away from the desk. Don't try to force a breakthrough in your head. Instead, go find your "worst" closet, cupboard, or junk drawer.
Empty it completely. Clear the space. And allow the magic to flow in.
Because it will.
What is the one area in your home that is holding the most stagnant energy right now? Let’s talk about it in the comments below!
