Are Matching Hangers Really Worth the Hype?
Are matching hangers really worth the hype?
I am going with a big YES!!
When I help clients declutter and organize their closets, I always recommend moving all of their clothes to matching hangers. This small change makes a big impact on the overall look and feel of a closet. Matching hangers create a uniform feel in the closet, not just because of the look of the hanger, but because all of the clothes are hung at the same height. If you do a quick google search of the benefits of matching hangers you will find that multiple people say they thought the idea was crazy until they made the change :)
My go-to hangers for a closet are a mix of velvet slimline hangers and plastic slimline hangers. If you are tight on space, changing to slimline hangers is a must! Slimline hangers are about 0.2" thick. You can easily get twice as many slimline hangers in a closet than you can the tubular plastic or wood hangers. We use a mix of the following hangers, they are both black so blend together to give your closet a uniform look.
Velvet slimline hangers I use these for silky shirts, scarves, wide neck shirts or dresses and sweaters (see below for the best way to hang sweaters)
Plastic slimline hangers I use these mostly for t-shirts, sweatshirts or anything with a smaller neck. T-shirts stay on these hangers but still easily slide off when you tug on a sleeve, similar to a plastic tubular hanger.
Plastic hanger clips I use these to transform velvet hangers into skirt, short or pant hangers. If client's have the hanging space, I like to hang as many clothes as possible. You need to be careful when hanging sweaters. Check out this video for the correct way to hang your sweaters :)
I do love wood hangers for a coat closet or mudroom. Wood hangers provide the sturdiness needed for heavy coats and the uniform look makes the space look great!
Now I am not telling all of you to go out and get new hangers. I am just letting you know that if you do, you will not be disappointed with the results!
