Organizing is an innate part of my personality. My dad said when I was five I would organize my crayons by color before I started coloring. My mom said when I was eight I would spend the day rearranging my drawers until they were perfect. Even when I worked in the corporate world I couldn’t wait for a slow day so I could restock and organize the supply closet. I remember the first time I realized being a professional organizer was an actual job - and I knew I was going to do it one day too!
I founded Sorted Spaces in 2021. I was just a tired mom who couldn’t bear another day with a soul crushing desk job. I talked to some family, whined about not knowing what to do, then, I put on my big girl panties, and bumbled my way through launching a new business. I just did it. Within days I had my first client and I have never looked back.
With each client I noticed trends, solidified my process, and began to help floundering families function much more efficiently. The work is messy, emotional, exhausting, and so much more fun and fulfilling than I could have ever imagined!
Over the past few years I have figured out that I excel at organizing for how my client’s brains work. As someone who was diagnosed later in life with ADHD, I realized that organizing needs to be much more than just rearranging your things. My understanding of what my neurodivergent brain needs to stay organized, combined with my Masters in Psychology, has provided me with a framework to help others who have tried multiple methods but can’t make an organizing system stick. Many of my clients have struggled with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD, and all of these mental health conditions impact one's ability to get organized and stay organized. This is why my business motto is “professional organizing for the whole you, not just your mess.” My goal is to teach my clients simple strategies to organize for how their brain works so eventually they don’t need me anymore.
When I am not organizing or decorating, my husband, Brian, and I love spending time with our 7 year old, Thatcher. I am a novice plant mom who has accumulated a few too many plants in a short amount of time. I love art in every format from paper to pint glass. My mom, sister and I all enjoy quilting. I love getting sucked into a good audio book and binge watching TV shows. I have a monthly girls night out with friends which always renews my soul. I love the summer in Iowa as there is so much to do but the fall is my absolute favorite season. I love meeting people and there is no greater privilege than being invited into someone’s home, making friends, and helping change lives for the better.
