Wings of Change: Tidy Butterfly Rebrands to Serve Awesome Gen X Women
It's my anniversary month! Whoa—how did that happen? Three years of decluttering, organizing, and helping awesome empty nesters in the Des Moines area reclaim their space (and sanity).
Tidy Butterfly loves real results, real transformations, and real fun along the way. A HUGE shoutout to my amazing clients! You get it—life’s too short for junk drawers and cluttered closets.
In honor of my anniversary month, I have some news: I’m rebranding! After three amazing years of working as a professional organizer, focusing on seniors and whole-house decluttering, it’s time for a refresh. Think of it as a spring reset—but for my brand!
"I’m reinventing myself. It’s like a makeover, except for my spirit and stuff."
— Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997)
Hi, I’m Carrie, your friendly neighborhood GenX professional home organizer helping women and couples clear the clutter and take back their space—without the overwhelm. We grew up making mixtapes, not Pinterest-perfect homes, so I focus on practical, no-nonsense organizing that actually works for your life. Whether you’re tired of the mess, downsizing, or just need a reset, I can help you create a home that feels lighter, more functional, and totally you. Let’s make organizing simple—and maybe even a little fun!
What’s Changing?
Same mission, fresh focus: helping Gen X women get organized!
Bring authentic, fun and relatable content with a touch of nostalgia
Shift the focus from whole-house decluttering to working through one area at a time
Highlight tips and tricks to better eco-organize (go green!) your space
What’s Not Changing?
My commitment to helping you get organized without the overwhelm
My love for all things 80s, sticky notes, and systems that actually work
The fact that clutter still doesn’t spark joy, it just sparks stress
Same no-nonsense approach. Let’s get your space working for you!
One reason I love helping people in my generation is because I get it. I understand being sentimental and wanting to keep things from childhood and our youth that takes us back in time when we see it. You might have yearbooks, an old media collection or G.I. Joe dolls and they have reserved parking in your storage room. Afterall, we were pretty obsessed with nostalgia and going Back to the Future.
Speaking of decluttering and your storage room, here’s 3 Things Gen Xers Have a Hard Time Getting Rid of (and how to let them go):
Old CDs, Tapes, and DVDs
Why it’s hard: These aren’t just media—they’re time capsules. For Gen X, mixtapes and CD collections were love letters, identity statements, and Friday nights in your room.
How to let go:
Digitize your favorites (if you haven’t already).
Pick a few meaningful items to keep as decor or memory pieces.
Donate the rest to a local library or thrift store—they still have value to someone else.
2. Childhood Memorabilia (Yours or Your Kids')
Why it’s hard: Gen X grew up during a time when holding onto "things" equaled preserving memories. That sticker collection? Your original Cabbage Patch Kid? Total emotional time machines.
How to let go:
Take photos of the items before letting them go.
Create a small memory box with just a few special pieces.
Consider giving certain toys or books new life by passing them on to friends or family with young kids.
3. Paper—All the Paper
Why it’s hard: Bank statements, pay stubs, kids’ art, school papers, photos and articles clipped from magazines… Gen X was raised to keep records just in case. We also didn’t have the internet.
How to let go:
Set a timer and tackle one stack at a time.
Scan or photograph anything important or sentimental.
Shred what you don’t need—most things are accessible online now anyway.
Does this list resonate with you? What else is hiding away in your storage?
If decluttering and organizing is on your To-Do list, and you live in the Des Moines metro, I'd love to help you! To get started, visit my website and schedule a free Discovery Call to see how I can help you refresh your home this spring.
